Iranian Ship Attacked
Iranian media and maritime analysis firm Dryad Global said an Iranian military support ship has been attacked in the Red Sea on Tuesday. Tasnim news agency identified the ship as the Iran Saviz. On Tuesday evening, the agency said limpet mines had been used in the attack.
Netanyahu to Form New Government
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin approached Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday to form a government, giving the prime minister the chance to hold on to power despite facing a corruption trial. After meeting all 13 parties in parliament, Rivlin announced his decision of entrusting Netanyahu with the task of forming the next government.
Iraq, US Strategic Dialogue
In the first strategic dialogue between Baghdad and Washington since US President Joe Biden took office, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein will tackle security and economic cooperation on Wednesday. The White House said that trade, culture, and climate are on the agenda, as well as security and the role of US forces in Iraq.
Turkey Human Rights Issues
During talks in Ankara, EU chiefs pressed Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on human rights breaches. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who was joined in the meeting by European Council President Charles Michel, said she was “deeply worried” about Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, a treaty designed to prevent violence against women.
